De un tiempo a esta parte he visto como muchas amigas están tejiendo cuadraditos:”granny”. Estos cuadraditos (así yo los conocía) fue lo primero que aprendí a tejer a crochet cuando niña, por eso cuando los veo me recuerdo de aquella época, fue en el invierno de 1971, después del terremoto en Santiago.

La noche del terremoto, nos encontrábamos en casa, mis hermanos y yo solos con mi madre, mi papá por aquella época trabajaba en Villa Alemana y Quilpué (ciudades que también fueron muy afectadas por el terremoto), así que lo veíamos solo los fines de semana.
Mi papá regresó a casa al día siguiente, pues estaban cortados las líneas telefónicas y algunos caminos. Como se suspendieron las clases y muy lentamente se restablecían las cosas, nos trasladamos a Quilpué por un tiempo, y en esas tardes frías y lluviosas, en una ciudad tan azotada también por el terremoto, yo me entretenía tejiendo cuadraditos multicolores.

No se si por “tentada” o por nostálgica quise tejerlos nuevamente, empleando restos de lana que pasaban de un lugar a otro en la casa. Quizás no es la combinación de colores más adecuada (rosa viejo, azulino, terracota y negro), pero creo que los grannies tienen la particularidad de conseguir un efecto especial, independiente de los colores que se usen.

I don't if by "tempted" or nostalgic person I wanted made them again, using remnants of wool that went from one place to another in the house. Maybe it isn't the most suitable combination of colours (pink old, blue, terracotta and black), but I think the Grannies square have the particularity to achieve a special effect, independent of the colours you used.
